Odisha Firefighters to help rescue miners in Meghalaya

Bhubaneswar: A 20-member team of Odisha fire fighters left for Shillong, Meghalaya Friday morning to rescue miners stuck in a coal mine. An Indian Air Force transport carrier 130J Super Herculeus helped the team in transportation.

At least 15 miners have been stuck in a coal mine in East Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya for more than two weeks.

National Disaster Response force (NDRF) and local authorities have been trying to rescue the miners. The team from Odisha are going to lend a hand in rescue operations.

The mine had gotten filled with water. High levels of water had been a continuous hindrance in rescue operations.

The 20-member team of Odisha firefighters’ team has 15 high-pressure pumps and ancillary equipments with them. These will be used to drain out water from the mine where the miners are trapped.

Orissa Special Relief Commissioner had asked Fire and Emergency Service for help in rescue operations, reported ANI.
