Odisha Fire Service To Start Inspection Of Coaching Centres

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Fire Service has decided to conduct an inspection of fire safety measures in coaching centres across the state in the wake of the recent fire mishap at Gujarat which claimed 22 lives.

Sources in the directorate said that in the first phase inspection will be conducted in the state capital from Monday.  Several private coaching centres are operating from high-rise buildings in Bhubaneswar but most of those lack adequate firefighting measures.

Fire officials said that a number of coaching centres are operating in rented buildings and these buildings need to have firefighting measures such as autofire detection system, manual operated electrical fire alarm system, hose boxes with delivery hoses and branch. Besides the establishment needs to have sufficient space for evacuation and operations of fire tenders as well.

In August last year property worth lakhs of rupees were gutted in a major fire mishap at a private coaching centre in Acharya Vihar. Fortunately, no one was injured in the mishap as no classes were going on in the coaching centre located on the second floor of the building during the mishap.
