Odisha Fin Min criticises NNKS for shutdown, dubs bandh as ‘unfortunate’

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Finance Minister Sashi Bhusan Behera today came down heavily upon the farmers’ body Naba Nirman Krushak Sangathan (NNKS) for observing a 12-hour Odisha bandh today despite State Government’s appeal to desist, in view of Matric examination scheduled to start from tomorrow.

“The state-wide shut down by the farmers is ‘unfortunate’. What is more unfortunate is that two national political parties supported it also despite knowing the fact that without caring about the students scheduled to appear in High School Certificate (HSC) examination tomorrow,” said Behera in his reaction to media.

“NNKS resorted to bandh a day ahead of Matric examination without reviewing the KALIA scheme and didn’t take into consideration the State Government’s appeal to withdraw the call. It posed difficulties for students and public,” added Behera.

Notably, NNKS observed a 12-hour Odisha Bandh today demanding price, prestige and pension for farmers. Twin City Commissionerate Police took around 75 members of the association into custody to restore normalcy in the capital city. However, in other part of the state road blockades and picketing by NNKS members posed difficulties for commuters.
