Odisha farmer torches pest-affected paddy field in 50 acres land Bargarh: Annoyed over the apathetic nature of the district administration, a farmer torched his paddy filed on Tuesday.

One Brunda Sahu of Kalapani block of the district had grown paddy in over 50 acres of land. He had reportedly informed the district administration after insects damaged the crops.Since the district administration did not respond to his plea, the peasant got fumed over it and torched his paddy filed this morning.

Meanwhile, Agriculture Minister Damodar Rout directed the district authority to submit a report within 48 hours. Besides, he informed that a team of agricultural experts will conduct an on spot investigation tomorrow.

Notably, two farmers had committed suicide in the district, which is considered the rice bowl of the state, within a week after they faced crop loss due to different reasons.
