Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s fake doctor Ramesh Swain, who has been arrested on charges of duping several women after marrying them, will undergo a lie detection test or polygraph test today. The accused had already given his consent for the lie-detection test.
Swain was taken on five-day, three-day, and five-day police remand in three phases. Around 10 days after taking the 66-year-old conman into custody, police had arrested his stepsister, Rashmita Beuria , for allegedly helping him reinforce his identity as a doctor and win the trust of the women and their families, whom he targetted through matrimonials published in newspapers.
Swain was arrested by the Commissionerate Police on February 14 on charges of marrying and duping several women across the country on the pretext of marriage. He has also been charged with cheating other people and organizations by posing as a doctor.
Notably, a video made by Swain had surfaced during the police investigation in which he was seen crying inconsolably. However, the police said that he used the video to emotionally blackmail his victims, mostly women, to further his agenda.
Besides, the Commissionerate Police has constituted A ‘Pink Team’ to probe the multi-dimensional crimes committed by Swain. The team includes several senior police officials, a legal adviser, a chartered accountant, and a cyber expert.
Ramesh had married at least 18 middle-aged single women including two Supreme Court lawyers, a Delhi school teacher, a police officer, and a doctor, and acquired their money before abandoning them.
He married the women through matrimonial sites like Jeevansathi.com, Shaadi.com, and Bharatmatrimony.com. The interesting part is that Ramesh has saved the phone numbers of several women as wife one, wife doctor, wife Bhilai, wife teacher, wife Guwahati, wife Bangalore, to be wife Dhenkanal, to be wife Jagatsinghpur, and so on in his mobile phone.
