Engineering student rescued from Blue Whale scare in Odisha

Cuttack: Commissionerate Police managed to rescue an engineering student, who attempted suicide after falling prey to Blue Whale Challenge, the deadly internet game, from the CDA area in the Millennium City on Tuesday.

Confirming the rescue of the student, Cuttack DCP Akhileswar Singh said that the engineering student, who hails from Keonjhar district, was rescued after being alerted by his friend and has been handed over to his parents.

According to reports, Vishal Srivastava, a friend of the engineering student, had drawn the attention of the Odisha police to the matter through a Twitter message yesterday after noticing that his friend had already crossed the tenth step of the killer game and had also inked a picture of a Whale on his hand.

‘Sir somebody’s into blue whale and i need your help urgent,” said Srivastava in a Twitter message to the state police.

His message got an immediate reply from the Odisha Crime Branch, which gave the name and contact number of the nearby police officer.

“Please contact Inspector Akshaya Kumar Nayak, Inspector In-charge of Cyber Crime Police Station 8658634144/9438916913 & furnish detail info,” read the Twitter message of Odisha Crime Branch.

Acting on the allegation, the Markatnagar Police investigated the matter and rescued the Engineering student.
