Odisha: Elephant falls in wild boar net, dies

An elephant has died in Mahda forest of Binika range of Sonepur district of Odisha. Reports say, the tusker has been electrocuted.

Sonepur: An elephant has died in Mahda forest of Binika range of Sonepur district of Odisha. Reports say, the tusker has been electrocuted.

Yesterday some poacher allegedly scattered live electric wires in Mahada forest for the purpose of hunting wild boars.

However, at night the elephant came in search of food and was trapped in the electrically charged wires. As a result, the elephant died on the spot.

Today, local people found the elephant dead and informed the forest department. The forest officials reached the spot and cut off the electricity and recovered the elephant carcass.

The forest department has recovered the dead body of the elephant and sent it for autopsy.
