Odisha: Doctor, Nurse beaten at Pandit Raghunath Murmu Hospital

Baripada: Tension ran high at Pandit Raghunath Murmu (PRM) Medical College and Hospital here in Mayurbhanj district of Odisha after a doctor and a nurse were allegedly by attacked by the relatives of a patient who died on Saturday.

Doctors and Nurses of the PRM Medical College and Hospital stopped work and went on strike demanding adequate security for all the staff on duty at the hospital.

The healthcare services at the hospital were affected for around four hours due to the protest. However, the doctors and nurses resumed their duties after getting an assurance of stringent action against the attackers.

The tension erupted after the demise of one Jhunu Das while undergoing treatment at the hospital. The deceased, a resident of Ekatali village in Saraskana of Mayurbhanj district, was admitted to the hospital following chest pain.

Then, the family members of the deceased patient allegedly attacked a doctor and a nurse of the hospital alleging medical negligence.

Meanwhile, the Town police arrested four persons in connection with the case.

“Four persons have been arrested for misbehaving with a doctor and a nurse at the PRM medical college and hospital and an investigation is underway,” a police official said.
