Odisha DGP inaugurates Cyber Forensic Laboratory Bhubaneswar: While the cyber-crime in the state is rampant with many obscene videos going viral in social networking sites recently, Odisha DGP Rajendra Prasad Sharma inaugurated the much awaited Cyber Forensic Laboratory at Rasulgarh here on Wednesday to deal with such crimes.

The Cyber Forensic Laboratory has been set up with procurement of latest equipment and software at a cost of about Rs 1 crore.

Two scientific officers, who have undergone expertise training at various institutes including Central Forensic Science Laboratories, have been appointed in the Laboratory.

“Earlier we were referring cases to other Cyber Forensic Laboratories due to which the investigation process was bit late. But with the launching of this Cyber Forensic Laboratory, I hope we will be getting the reports soon. Two scientific officers have been appointed to handle this division,” said the DGP while speaking to the reporters after the inauguration ceremony.

“The Cyber Forensic Laboratory will also be helpful for the investigation of the viral videos uploaded on social media,” he added.

Earlier the law enforcement agencies of the state were referring cases to Central Forensic Science Laboratories at Kolkata, Hyderabad and Chandigarh. The process of the investigation was getting affected due to non-receipt of forensic finding in time.

“With the establishment and function of Cyber Forensic Division in State Forensic Science Laboratory, the experts of the institution will be able to assist the investigators in detection of exact nature of crime, presentation of evidence forensic analysis and preparation of reports acceptable in the Court of Law,” said a press release issued by the Odisha police.

“The Laboratory is now ready to take up the examination of computer devices, mobile phones and other digital devices for recovery of deleted data, encrypted files, pornographic and other incriminating materials contest, various internet activities through the device in case like hacking, phishing ATV/ Debit/ Credit Card fraud e-mail fraud, face book related crimes and others,” added the press release.
