Odisha: Deer hide, antlers seized, 2 poachers held

Balasore: Forest officials seized a deer hide, horns and three guns and arrested two poachers at Bhaliaposhi village under Kuladiha sanctuary range in the district on Friday.

The Forest officials identified the accused persons as Lebe Murmu and Panda Marandi of Mankadapada village in Mayurbhanj.

Briefing about the case to the newsmen, Laxman Kumar Pradhan, Assistant Conservator of Forest Officer (ACFO) said, “Two men from Mankadapada village in Mayurbhanj district had come to the Bhaliaposhi village and were staying in a temporary house near the Kuladiha sanctuary for the last 15 to 20 days. We had received a complaint from some reliable sources who alleged that the duos were staying there for hunting wild animals.”

“Our staff members were closely following their movements and raided their make-shift house this morning. During the search, we found deer hide and antlers. Besides, we seized three country-made guns from their possessions. During interrogation, they confessed to the crime,” he added.

The ACFO further said that further investigation into the matter is still on to fight out the involvement of others and whether they are in association with any wildlife poaching gang. The accused persons will be forwarded to the court later today, he added.
