Odisha: Daringbadi Block Chairperson disqualified

Phulbani:  The District and Sessions Court in Phulbani on Tuesday declared null and void to the election of Subenti Pradhan as the chairperson of Daringbadi block in Odisha’s Kandhamal district. She was elected to the said post in 2017 Panchayat Elections.

According to reports, Pradhan has been disqualified on the grounds of submitting a false affidavit while filing her nomination during 2017 Panchayat Elections.

Pradhan contested the election of Member of Panchayat Samiti from Shraniketa Panchayat and was declared elected as Member of Panchayat Samiti. Subsequently, she was also elected as Chairperson of Daringbadi Panchayat Samiti.

The disqualification comes in response to a petition filed by  Ruda Mallick,  Member of Tajungia  Panchayat Samiti. Mallick lost to Pradhan in the Block Chairperson election.

Mallick, in its petition, had alleged that Pradhan has six children – four sons and two daughters – but she didn’t mention it in her affidavit, violating the norms of Panchayati Raj Act.
