Odisha: Cyclone JAWAD to make landfall on December 4 !

Bhubaneswar: Heavy rains have been predicted in Odisha due to the upcoming cyclone JAWAD that is expected to make landfall between Puri and Berhampur of Odisha.

A low pressure area will be formed over South Andaman Sea during the next 12 hours following which it will move in a west northwest direction and concentrate into a depression over southeast & adjoining eastcentral Bay of Bengal during subsequent 48 hours, informed Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar.

The low pressure area is likely to intensify into a depression by December 2, said Director General of IMD Mrutyunjay Mohapatra.

Under its influence, a cyclonic storm may form over the Bay of Bengal due to which heavy rainfall is expected from December 3 to 5 over south Odisha and North Coastal Andhra.

High waves will be formed in the sea and at the same time, the speed of the wind will be high. The wind speed is predicted to be upto 60 to 70 km per hour and in some places, wind speed is likely to be upto 80 to 90km per hour.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall expected in Gajapati, Ganjam and Puri districts on the December 3. Windy’s GFS model suggested that the cyclonic will move from the direction of Gulf of Thailand from tomorrow night. The possible cyclone JAWAD will be touch Odisha coast on December 4 and make landfall between Puri and Berhampur.

However, accurate information regarding the movement and intensity of cyclone JAWAD after the formation of low pressure.

Odisha Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradeep Jena has advised the district Collectors to stay alert. A warning also has been issued for the fishermen.
