Odisha cops bag 17 I-Day gallantry medals

Bhubaneswar: Odisha police clinched the second spot among the States by bagging 17 Police Medals for Gallantry (PMG) in the list announced by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Monday. Odisha trailed behind neighbouring Telengana, which took the top spot with 24 medals.

The PMG awardees from Odisha are Havildars Bhabani Pradhan, Amit Kumar Biswal, Deputy Subedar Kiran Kumar, Constables Manoranjan Nayak, Uday Shankar Patra, Dhaneshwar Muduli, Paramananda Pradhan, Mahadev Gahir, Hemanta Pradhan, Rajkishore Jal, Hrusikesh Pradhan, Ram Chandra Hembram, Samanta Majhi, Late Suresh Chandra Hembram (posthumously) along with Sergeants Tunu Sahoo, and Santanu Kumar Pradhan.

Eight cops from the State have been chosen to receive police medal for meritorious service. They are ASP (Special Intelligence Wing) Kartikeswar Samal, Assistant Inspector Kishore Kumar Dongayat, Assistant Commandant (Security Wing) Naresh Kumar Patel, Sub-Inspector Bijay Kishore Dash, Havildar Mohammad Sabir, Havildar Goutam Charan Swain, Constable Sagar Charan Guia and Constable (Vigilance) Sanjukta Pattnaik.

Rabindra Kumar Mohapatra, additional superintendent of police (ASP), Bhubaneswar would get the President’s Police Medal for distinguished service.

The gallantry medals would be presented to the winning police officials for their commendable contributions towards service on the occasion of 71st Independence Day tomorrow. A total of 948 medals would be conferred all over the country with President’s Police Medal for Gallantry (7), Police Medal for Gallantry (170), President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service (88) and Police Medal for Meritorious Service (683).
