Odisha: Contractual worker loses leg at Damanjodi NALCO plant

Koraput : In a tragic incident, a contractual worker lost his leg and two others sustained critical injury in a mishap while carrying out a wielding work at NALCO plant, located at Damanjodi in Odisha’s Koraput district, on Thursday.

Three injured workers, identified as Rankanidhi Behera, Trilochan Hial and Rajendra Gouda, were immediately rushed to NALCO hospital in Damanjodi for their treatment and later shifted to a private hospital in Vishakhapatnam as their condition deteriorated.

Sources said, three workers were opening an old iron gate at the plant when a chemical container kept nearby caught fire and exploded.

The impact of the explosion was so severe that Behera got his one leg severed in the mishap. The injured workers were hired by Amulya Constructions, sources said.
