Odisha: Cong MLA Krushna Sagaria resigns formally

Bhubanneswar : Congress MLA from Koraput Assembly segment Krushna Chandra Sagaria formally resigned as member of the Odisha Assembly on Tuesday.

Sagaria called on Speaker Pradeep Amat and submitted his resignation letter this morning.

On October 30, the Congress leader had announced his resignation protesting “injustice” meted out to an alleged gang rape victim of Koraput district, who committed suicide earlier this year.

“I have quit the membership of Odisha Assembly, as I feel I have no moral right to continue as an MLA, having failed to ensure justice in Kunduli gangrape and suicide incident,” the Congress leader told reporters.

The Dalit leader, however, reiterated that he would continue to work for the Congress.

Notably, a Class IX student of Sorisapadar village under Potangi police limits in Koraput district was allegedly gang raped by four security personnel, while she was returning from the Kunduli Haat (market) on October 10, 2017 that created a huge public outcry in the state.

The 14-year-old girl committed suicide by hanging on January 22 this year, triggering sharp reactions from many quarters.
