Bhawanipatna: A college girl allegedly committed suicide in Madanpur Rampur area of the district after a youth passed lewd remarks to her on Thursday.
The deceased identified as Kabita Padhan of Alatara village has consumed poison on Thursday. Pradhan was a plus-three second-year student of M. Rampur College in the district.
Her family members alleged that the youth passed lewd remarks at her and thrashed her while she was waiting for a bus at a bus stop yesterday.
“Locals rescued her and rushed her to a nearby hospital from where he was referred to Bhima Bhoi Medical College & Hospital in Balangir district. She died while undergoing treatment there,” said a police official.
