Odisha CM Seeks Bhubaneswar-Pune Direct Flight

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday requested the Union government to introduce direct flight services between Bhubaneswar and Pune.

Patnaik wrote a letter to Minister of Civil Aviation Ashok Gajapati Raju Pusapati in this regard seeking his personal intervention and urged him for introduction of direct flights between the two destinations either by Air India or any other private airlines at the earliest.

The Odisha Chief Minister pointed out that many academicians and IT professionals frequently communicate between the two cities as they are prominent educational and IT hubs of the country.

Naveen also cited the tourism factor to press his demand. “Tourists from Odisha visit to Maharashtra-based tourist destinations like Shiridi, Mahabaleswar, Trimbakeswar near Pune. Likewise, from Pune also people pay visit to places like Puri, Konark, Chilika,” said the CM in the letter to Civil Aviation Minister.

“In absence of direct air communication passengers have to choose costlier routes to reach Pune via Hyderabad or Mumbai, which is also time consuming for them,” he added.

Notably, Patnaik, during his visit to Pune last month to receive the ‘Ideal Chief Minister’ award, had assured the Odias residing there to demand for a direct flights between the two cities.
