Odisha CM pays tribute to 1st PM Jawaharlal Nehru on his birth anniversary

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik paid tribute to the first Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on his 129th birth anniversary on Wednesday.

The day is also celebrated as Children’s Day to mark Nehru’s birthday.

“Humble tribute to first prime minister of independent India Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru on his birth anniversary, celebrated as ChildrensDay. He was a great statesman and architect of modern India; his contribution to build a secular and progressive India will always be remembered,” Patnaik tweeted.

Earlier on the day, eminent politicians of the state and students of various schools paid floral tribute to the statue of Pandit Nehru at Station square near Master Canteen in the State capital

A series of functions have been organised to highlight the contribution of Pandit Nehru in nation building across the state.

Jawaharlal Nehru was born to Motilal Nehru and Swaruprani Thussu on November 14, 1889, in Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh. He remained in office as the Prime Minister of the country until his death in 1964.
