Odisha CM increases assistance to families of fallen heroes to Rs 10 lakhs

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday enhanced the amount of Government financial assistance to the next of the kin of fallen heroes from Rs 5 lakhs to Rs 10 lakhs. It was intimated in a note released from the CMO today.

Accordingly, the families of the valiant soldiersfrom the State or central forces, who give supreme sacrifice in the war or in the battle against terrorists, will get Rs. 10 lakh from the Odisha Government.

It is to be noted that many Odia people have been martyred while fighting against terrorists.

In September 2018 an Odia jawan of Assam Rifles had attained martyrdom in terrorist attack during a combing operation in Manipur’s Chandel district.

Identified as Champeswar Mahakud of Dhaurakhaman village under Redhakhol police limits in Sambalpur district he was working in Assam Rifles since 2001.

Champeswar, who set out on a combing operation along with fellow jawans in Chandel village in the north-eastern state Manipur sustained bullet injuries during an encounter with suspected members of outlawed People’s Liberation Armay (PLA) group.

Similarly, Odia jawan Hemant Kumar Panda had been martyred in a terrorist attack in Baramulla of Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) in January 2019.

A native of Atharang village under Begunia Police limits  he was rushed to the hospital in a critical condition after he sustained bullet injury in a gun battle between the security personnel and terrorists. Unfortunately, he died while undergoing treatment.
