Odisha CM Hikes Health Benefit Under Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana After Req From Malkangiri Woman

Bhubaneswar: In an unprompted response, CM Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday enhanced the health benefit for women under the Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 7 lakh after a request from a tribal woman during a programme of Ama Gaon Ama Bikash Yojana in Malkangiri.

Mamata Padiami, a woman from Kalimela block of Malkangiri district had requested the Chief Minister to increase the limit of the health assistance for women who face more health related issues than men.

Through videoconferencing, Naveen interacted with people of eight districts of the state under the programme meant for development of Panchayati Raj institutions of the State. “A lady from Malkangiri district called Mamata, said we should enhance our Biju Kalyan Yojana programme for women, from 5 lakh to 7 lakh. I have taken note of her suggestion. It will benefit the women of our state,” said Naveen.

The Naveen Patnaik Government had announced the ambitious Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana on June 12 with an aim of universal health coverage. Under the programme, about 70 lakh families of the state will be provided secondary and tertiary cashless health care assistance up to Rs 5 lakh every year.
