Odisha CM congratulates Indian scientists for successfully test-firing ASAT weapon

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday congratulated scientists of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for successfully testing anti-satellite (ASAT) missile by destroying a predetermined target of a defunct satellite in low earth orbit today.

Taking to his Twitter handle, Patnaik said, “Congratulate scientists of #ISRO and DRDO on successfully demonstrating ability of anti-satellite weapon A-SAT, as part of #MissionShakti. The scientific feat will significantly bolster country’s security in space.”

It is worthwhile to mention here that the ASAT missile, part of Mission Shakti, intercepted its target of a defunct satellite in low earth orbit and destroyed it in 3 minutes. With this achievement, India became the fourth country after the United States of America, China and Russia to have tested an ASAT missile in a show of force.
