Odisha CM announces relief package for cyclone-hit Puri

Puri: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday announced a special relief package for cyclone-hit Puri, the worst-affected district, which was ravaged by the extremely severe cyclonic storm Fani on May 3.

The announcement came soon after the Chief Minister reviewed the ongoing relief and restoration works in the district.

The Chief Minister announced that each family will get 2.5 litres of kerosene for free every 10 days till power supply is restored and 10 lakh candles will also be distributed in the cyclone-hit areas in the district.

Patnaik also declared that each family will be provided 50 kg of rice regardless of whether it has a ration card or not.  He also stated that sanitary napkins will be distributed free of cost for two months in the cyclone-affected areas.

On May 3, the extremely severe cyclonic storm Fani made landfall near Puri coast, causing huge damage to infrastructure and livelihood in 14 coastal districts in the state.
