Odisha CM announces Ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh each to Kin of Pottangi landslide Victims

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed deep grief over the death of 3 women of Pottangi in Koraput district of Odisha on Friday and announced an ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh for their next of the kins from CMRF.

The deceased women have been identified as Ramulama Musuri (40), her daughter Debi Musuri (17), Mitul Kota (27). Another 28 year old woman also sustained critical injury and admitted to Pottangi CHC.

As per reports, three women from Mirialupadu village under Ralegada GP in Pottangi block of Koraput district had gone to Padaguda village under Regna GP to extract limestone to be used in the Tribal festival called Chaiti. The soil is used in washing of utensils and used as paint in clay houses. When they were extracting limestone along with 8 others a portion of the hill caved in and four of them remained trapped. Others immediately alerted villagers following which Ralegada Sarpanch Trinath Kota reached the spot along with his associates and cleared the debris and rescued the victims.

The chief minister has conveyed his deep sympathy to the bereaved family. The state government will also bear the medical expenditure of the injured one, the CM has directed.
