hot iron brandingKeonjhar: Turning to superstitious practices cost another life in Odisha on Friday with a 21-day-old baby boy dying of the injuries caused by hot iron branding in Pidhapokhari village in Keonjhar district.

On Monday, the child fell sick due to a stomach related ailment. While the 21-year-old showed symptoms of bloated stomach disease – common in infants of his age – an aunt of his, who happens to be a quack, suggested hot iron branding on the abdomen. As the parents of the child followed her suggestion, his condition further deteriorated. He was rushed to the DHH on Thursday.

The child remained under treatment at the ICU of the DHH for two days before succumbing to the injuries late in the night yesterday.
