Odisha Chief Secretary reviews auctioned mining projects

MiningBhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi on Thursday took stock of the recently auctioned mining projects at the State Facilitation Committee meeting held at state Secretariat.

Principal Secretary Steel & Mines Raj Kumar Sharma outlined the issues for discussion.

Conducting a project wise review, the Chief Secretary directed the concerned departments to expedite the process for issue of various clearances and approvals for starting mining operations.

During the meeting, the required tasks were identified against each project following which Padhi set timelines for completion of the tasks by departments like revenue & disaster management, forest & environment, steel & mines and State Pollution Control Board (SPCB).

Collectors and Divisional Forest Officers (DFOs) were asked to facilitate the process expeditiously while the Steel & Mines Department has been directed to step up preparations for auction of more mines in the coming months.

The progress of five mining lease projects reviewed in the meeting included  Ghoraburhani-Sagasahi iron ore block of Sundargarh district, Kottametta limestone block in Malkangiri district, Laserda-Pacheri manganese ore block in Keonjhar district, Kalamanga west iron block in Keonjhar & Sundargarh districts and Netrabandha iron block in Sundargarh district.

The meeting also set a target to step up preparations for auction of six more mines by end of October this year.

Additional Chief Secretary Forest & Environment Suresh Chandra Mohapatra, Principal Secretary Steel & Mines Raj Kumar Shrama, PCCF Wildlife Sandeep Tripathy, Member State Pollution Control Board Debidatta Biswal, Director, Mines Deepak Mohanty, Joint Secretary Revenue & Disaster Management Avaya Kumar Nayak, along with senior officers from concerned departments, participated in the discussions.
