Bhubaneswar: Schools, colleges and other educational institutes wore a festive look across the state today as students celebrated Saraswati Puja with religious fervour and gaiety.

Starting from the morning, the puja rituals begun to welcome Maa Saraswati considered as the Goddess of knowledge, wisdom, learning, eloquence, memory, poetic skills and so on. Wearing new clothes set out for their schools to take part in the puja as the day is also granted as a ‘no study’ day.

Massive Saraswati idols spreading an aura of devotional feeling were seen decked up in educational institutions where chanting of hymns by priests created a different environment altogether. Children  offered flowers to Maa Saraswati to perform ‘puspanjali’ and worshipped for academic wellbeing later in the day.

Chief Minister Naveen Patanik also greeted the people of Odisha on the occasion of Saraswati Puja today and took to his Twitter handle to post a wish in Odia.

Similarly, students of Sudarsan Sand Art Institute in Puri created a beautiful sand sculpture at Puri sea beach to wish people for Saraswati Puja.

Notably, Saraswati Puja is celebrated on Basant Panchami on the 5th day of Odia Magha month of Shukla Pakhya (bright lunar fortnight). The day also marks the beginning of the Spring season.
