Odisha celebrates ‘Kartik Purnima’ with pomp and gaiety

Bhubaneswar: With Odisha celebrating its rich maritime history on the holy occasion of ‘Kartik Purnima’ today, thousands of people thronged water bodies across the state and took part in sailing of boats made of banana leaf sheaths and paper.

Bindu Sagar in the state capital, Gada Gadia Ghat at Cuttack and Mahodadhi at Puri witnessed a jam-packed banks flooded with devotees since very early in the morning today. People were seen sailing their boats with lamps atop and accompanied by  “Aa Kaa Maa Boi” chanting.

MP Dr Prasanna Patsani, state culture and tourism minister Ashok Chandra Panda, Bhubaneswar (North) MLA Priyadarshi Mishra, Bhubaneswar (Central) MLA Bijaya Kumar Mohanty and Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena also took part in the Kartik Purnima celebration at Bindusagar in Bhubaneswar.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also wished people of the state on the occasion and remembered the glorious trade past of the state.

Taking to his twitter handle Naveen prayed for the prosperity of the state on this occasion.

Similarly, Dharmendra posted a hearty good wish to all Odias on the occasion of ‘Boita Bandana Utsav’ on twitter.
