Odisha celebrates 69th Republic day

Bhubaneswar: Odisha is today celebrating the 69th Republic Day. The main function was organized at Mahatma Gandhi Marg here in the state capital, where Governor SC Jamir hoisted the national flag and took the salute of the parade.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik unfurled the Tricolour at the Barabati stadium in Cuttack to mark the occasion.

Addressing on the occasion, the Chief Minister said, “The growth rate of Odisha is higher than that of the country and the State is at par with other states as far as development is concerned.”

“The state has bettered the national average in terms of poverty reduction and human development index,” he added.

In the state-level parade here at Mahatma Gandhi Marg, the marching contingents of police personnel, NCC, Bharat Scouts and Guide members, and students from city-based Schools and Colleges participated in the parade.

The tableaux of various organisations participated showcasing varied themes starting from state’s rich cultural heritage, flora and fauna and socio-economic development to progress of the state.

The daredevil team of Maharishi College of Natural Law here displayed daring stunts in the parade and stunned the spectators present there.

The State capital has been brought under a tight security cover in view of the Republic Day celebrations. As many as 12 commandos of the National Security Guard (NSG) were deployed to guard the Mahatma Gandhi Marg today.

Thousands of armed personnel have been keeping a tight vigil in Maoist-affected districts like Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Gajapati and Balangir to ensure a smooth passage of the celebrations.
