Odisha Businessman commits suicide in Jamshedpur, Family accuses torture by in-laws

Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident, a businessman from Rourkela allegedly committed suicide by jumping off a hotel building in Jamshedpur.

The deceased has been identified as Rahul Agarwal.

Reportedly, Rahul had married his wife, Barsha, in 2012 following which he was under severe mental pressure for several years after his wife filed a dowry case under Section 498 of the Indian Penal Code against him and his family.

A video went viral over social media where Rahul had alleged that his elderly parents were suffering as they had to make rounds of courts as his in-laws were misusing the law against them.

He also added that the Jamshedpur police did not listen to their side and acted on the allegations made by his in-laws.

Rahul further alleged that Barsha’s parents and brothers used to intervene and break off their marriage even after their kids were born.

It has been learnt that Rahul had gone to Jamshedpur to meet with his son and daughter and stayed at a hotel under Sonari police limits. Thereafter, Rahul committed suicide by jumping off of the hotel, informed the Jamshedpur police.

Adding to it, the deceased’s brother, Ankit Agarwal, has filed an FIR stating that Rahul died an unnatural death by committing suicide from the rooftop of the private hotel in Jamshedpur due to mental torture caused due to false complaint lodged by his in-laws.

Till the last reports came in, the family members and the CCTV footage is being investigated. Meanwhile, the in-laws could not be contacted over Rahul’s allegations.
