Odisha: Bol Bom devotees throng Shiva Temples on 1st Monday of Shravan

Bhubaneswar: Thousands of ‘Bol Bom’ devotees or ‘kanwariyas’  today thronged different Shiva temples across Odisha on the  occasion of first Monday of holy month Shravan.

Dressed in saffron-coloured clothes and carrying pots full of sanctified water on their shoulders, the Bol Bom devotees were seen waiting in long queues to offer the holy water on Lord Lingaraj here.

The devotees started their journey in groups last night after picking up water in small pots from various rivers and walked miles barefooted before offering the water to the Lord Shiva

Besides Lingaraj temple here, Lokanath in Puri, Dhabaleswar in Cuttack, Kapilash in Dhenkanal, Gupteswar in Koraput, Harishankar in Balangir were the main attraction for devotees during this holy month.

Elaborate security arrangements were made at major Lord Shiva temples across the state for a hassle free darshan and other rituals.

Meanwhile, internationally acclaimed sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik created a majestic sand art near Bhubaneswar airport on the occasion with the message “Omm Namah Shivaya”.

According to the hindu mythology it is believed that worshiping Lord Shiva during Shravan month is more powerful than worshiping during normal days. Each day of Shravan is considered as very devout and special prayers and rituals are performed at Lord Shiva temples across the state.
