Bhubaneswar: BJP MPs from Odisha today urged the Union Tourism Minister Prahlad Singh Patel for the inclusion of Puri Jagannath temple and Sun Temple at Konark in the list of India’s Iconic Tourist Sites.

In a letter to the Union Minister, all MPs of the party in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha said that both the temples are the holiest pilgrimage and attractive tourist destinations due to their religious, cultural and architectural importance.

“As the representatives of the people of Odisha, we are in appreciation of your Ministry’s initiative of developing 17 tourism sites across the country under the Iconic Tourist Sites Development Project which was announced by Minister of Finance Nirmala Sitharaman in 2019-20 Budget. Together with Temple City Bhubaneswar, the Puri Jagannath Temple and Konark Sun Temple including other tourist attractions such as the Raghurajpur crafts village and Chilika Lake provide a compelling proposition for holistic tourism development in Odisha,” read the letter.

The parliamentarians have also sought the personal intervention of the union minister for the inclusion of both the destinations in the Iconic Tourist Sites Development Project with suitable budgetary provisions for their comprehensive development.

“The inclusion of Puri Jagannath Temple and the Konark Sun Temple in the list of India’s Iconic Tourist Sites will be a moment of great pride for the people of Odisha,” added the letter.
