Angul: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has called for a 12-hour bandh in Angul district of Odisha on Wednesday to protest against the closure of the Talcher Thermal Power Station (TTPS). The BJD workers have blocked the road since morning.
Due to the bandh, all government and private offices have been closed. The coal transportation and vehicular movement have also been affected.
It is to be noted that the central government had ordered to shut down the plant mentioning about the pollution due to which more than 5,000 people lost their jobs.
On the other hand, TTPS has not provided any information regarding the construction of the new plant or the progress of the work.
The party has alleged that the central government is plotting to shut down the plant and privatize it.
