Bhubaneswar: The Biju Yuva Vahini (BYV) has been temporarily closed as the Odisha government has not allocated funds for the youth engagement program in the 2020-21 financial year.
In his reply to a question raised by MLA Bhabani Shankar Bhoi at the State Assembly today, Odisha Sports and Youth Services Minister Tusharkanti Behera said that the members of the BYV will not carry out any work in the next financial year as money has not been allocated to it in the State Budget.
Regarded as one of the largest youth engagement program in India and the only of its kind, BYV started its journey as a sub-scheme, which was introduced by the Department of Sports and Youth Services (DSYS) Government of Odisha with the Cabinet’s approval on March 14, 2018.
The holistic approach of BYV was aimed at channelizing the immense energy of the youth of Odisha towards a nation-building by inspiring volunteerism and active participation of the youth in various social action projects and community engagement activities thereby encouraging and enhancing comradeship.
