Odisha: Balangir MP Faces Protests From Supporters Of High Court Bench

Balangir: A scuffle took place between the supporters of Balangir MP Sangeeta Kumari Singh Deo and Lalit Nayak, Convenor of the Joint Action Committee demanding high court bench in the Balangir town.

The incident took place when Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan was in Balangir to review the situation in flood-affected areas of the district.

The supporters of Nayak raised slogans ‘go back’ and scuffled with the supporters of the BJP MP.

“We had been to Delhi to meet Dharmendra Pradhan to put forward our demand for a high court bench. But the local MP asked me to wait outside Pradhan’s chamber and was annoyed when his PA called me to the waiting room. I felt humiliated by the action of the local MP,” alleged Nayak.

On the other hand, Singh Deo denied the allegations and said that she has facilitated the meeting of a delegation from Balangir with the union Law minister. “The name of Nayak did not feature in the list of members of the delegation. One cannot meet the union minister without prior intimation. It is unfortunate that his supporters are creating disturbance for their own interest at a time when the area witnessed floods of the worst kind,” said the MP in her reaction.
