Odisha Assembly passes resolution to name Jharsuguda airport after Veer Surendra Sai

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Assembly on Tuesday passed a unanimous resolution to name the newly-built Jharsuguda airport after noted freedom fighter and tribal leader Veer Surendra Sai.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Bikram Keshari Arukh introduced the resolution on behalf of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

The state government will send a proposal regarding the same to the Civil Aviation ministry for its approval Odisha.

Notably, Patnaik had earlier on two occasions had urged Union Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu to name the airport after Veer Surendra Sai.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the newly constructed airport on September 22. Besides, he is slated to flag off flight from the airport under regional connectivity scheme UDAN.

Jharsugua is the second airport in Odisha after Biju Patnaik International Airport situated Bhubaneswar.

Meanwhile, Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi chaired a high-level meeting today over PM’s visit.

During the meeting, Padhi directed all the department Heads to follow the blue-book and instructions from the PMO in letter and spirit.

The Collectors and SPs of Angul and Jharsuguda were also a part of the meeting over video conferencing.

The assembly also passed another resolution to urge the Centre to include the ‘uniquely’ Indian ideal of Ahimsa (non-violence), in the preamble of Indian constitution, which was also proposed by the Odisha CM.

He had proposed this at the first meeting of the committee for celebration of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on May 2.
