Odisha Assembly adjourned till tomorrow over Congress pandemonium

Bhubaneswar: The winter session of the Odisha Assembly which began today witnessed an adjournment till tomorrow due to a pandemonium created by Congress MLAs over farmers’ issue on its first day.

Soon after the proceedings of the House began with an condolence motion move by the CM Naveen Patnaik for the late MLAs, CRPF personnel and a Doordarshan cameraman, the members of the house kept a one-minute silence.

LoP Narasingha Mishra, leader of BJP legislature party KV Singhdeo also supported the condolence motion and paid tributes to the departed souls including Prasanna Kumar Pal (Ex-Government Deputy Chief Whip), Banshidhar Sahoo (Ex-MLA), Champeswar Mahakud, (Ex-Rifle Man, 29 Assam Rifles) Braja Mohan Behera (Ex-Driver, CRPF)  and Achyutananda Sahu, slain Doordarshan Cameraman.

However, as the Question Hour of the opening day began Congress Chief Whip Taraprasad Bahinipati demanded discussion on his party’s adjournment motion on the farmers’ issue. But as the Speaker rejected the same and ordered for starting of the Question Hour the Congress MLAs resorted to pandemonium and entered into the well. The also shouted slogans against the government compelling Amat to adjourn the proceedings till 12.14 am.

Later when the House reassembled, the Congress leaders continued with their disturbances, which forced the Speaker to adjourn the proceedings till tomorrow.
