Odisha Assembly adjourned till 4 pm following ruckus

Bhubaneswar: Chaos continued to prevail in the Odisha Assembly for the ninth day of the Winter Session on Friday.

The members of opposition parties BJP and the Congress rushed to the well, holding placards and banners from the beginning of the session. The BJP members also beat gongs and bells as a mark of protest.

They shouted slogans reiterating their demand for the removal of the Minister of State (MoS) for Home, Dibya Shankar Mishra over Mamita Meher’s murder case. Unable to run the proceedings, Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro adjourned the House till 4 pm.

The winter session of the Odisha Assembly began on a stormy note even on Wednesday as opposition Congress legislators staged a ‘dharna’ before two entry points and locked another gate of the House over Mamita Meher’s murder case.

They were demanding justice for the victim and the removal of the Minister of State for Home for his alleged close link with the prime accused in the case.
