Odisha Assembly adjourned amid uproar over fuel price hike, Teachers’ strike

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Assembly was adjourned till 3 PM on Friday amidst uproar by Opposition Congress legislators and ruling BJD members over on-going agitation by the teachers from across the state and record fuel price hike.

As soon as the House met for the day, members from Congress urged the Speaker Pradip Kumar Amat to initiate a discussion on the issue of the agitating teachers.

However, the Speaker rejected their demand and directed for the commencement of the Question Hour session on which Congress members trooped into the well raising slogans against the state government’s apathy towards the teachers.

On the other hand, the ruling BJD members stood up and protested against the BJP-led government at Centre for sky-rocketing fuel prices in last few weeks.

Amid noisy scenes, the Speaker appealed the agitating members to go back to their seats saying he has to adjourn the House if members do not want to run the business.

Later, the Speaker adjourned the House till 3 PM today.
