Odisha: 441 Schools Functioning Without Toilets For Girls

Bhubaneswar: As many as 441 schools in the state don’t have toilets for girls, said Planning and Convergence, Commerce and Transport Minister Padmanabh Behera in Odisha Assembly today.

Behera while answering to a question related to schools without toilets in place of School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash also said that no boy’s toilets are there in 1485 schools in the state.

As per official statistics, Koraput district ranks lowest among the districts with 123 schools which do not have a toilet for girl students.

Responding to a question raised by Koraput MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati, Minister Padmanabh Behera said presented the status of toilets in State Government-run schools in the state.

As per the data 2017-18, girls toilet have been constructed in 53,763 schools and boys toilet in 52,521 schools out of total 54,298 state-run schools.

Behera, however, said that the Panchayatiraj and  Drinking Water department has been directed to build toilets in schools and provide safe and drinking water.
