Puri: The Court of Additional District and Sessions Judge here on Friday sentenced life imprisonment to three persons in connection with the sensational Astaranga quadruple murder case that took place on September 22, 2015.
On Wednesday, the court convicted the accused Himadri Sekhar Dash alias Rahim Khan, his wife Aisha Begum of West Midnapore in West Bengal and Fakir Mallik of Bolagarh in Odisha’s Khordha district for murdering Dinabandhu Mallick, a retired district inspector of schools, his wife Nirmala and two minor daughters in Dinadiyan Nagar village under Astaranga Police limits in the district.
The Court also imposed a fine of Rs 4000 on Fakir, the mastermind of the quadruple murder, who happens to be a brother-in-law of victim Dinabandhu.
The investigation team found that Fakir had made a plan along with family friends Himadri and Aisha to kill Dinabandhu and his family members. Accordingly, Himadri and Aisha visited Dinabandhu’s house on September 21, 2015 and stayed there for the night. They then committed the brutal act when the family was asleep before escaping with cash and other valuables.
In October 2015, a joint operation conducted by CID and Crime Branch nabbed Himadri and Aisha from Hailakhandi in Assam. The couple confessed to their crime. The cops also recovered the stolen gold jewellery, a motorcycle and cash from their possession.
The Crime Branch had filed a chargesheet against the three accused in February 2016.
