Berhampur: Acting on a tip-off, an encounter at about 12 am near Golantara by Goshani Nuagaon police left two dreaded criminals from Aska injured on late Friday night. Reportedly, these two were involved in the murder of Congress’ Aska Assembly candidate Manoj Jena.
The criminals have been identified as Ganesh Nayak aka Bulu and Hrushi Patra. While they hail from Aska, as per reports they were returning from Andhra Pradesh on a motorcycle. They also had three other yet-to-be-identified associates with them.
Goshani Nuagaon police, based on a tip-off, were lying in wait for the group to arrive. Upon spotting the police, the miscreants fired shots at the officials. The police reacted accordingly, which resulted in Bulu and Hrushi suffering from bullet injuries on their legs. However, their three associates managed to escape.
Two Mausers, three live bullets and bike were seized from the miscreants.
In the encounter, Nuagaon Inspector Sumit Soren and another official Kaushik Majhi were also injured.
All the injured are currently under treatment at the Berhampur Hospital.
As per police reports, the injured dreaded criminals were involved in the murder of Manoj Jena. Mere hours before vote counting Congress’ Aska Assembly candidate Manoj Jena grievously injured in an attack which led to his death.
