Odisha: 2 bears get killed while crossing road in Jajpur

Jajpur: Two bears, a mother and its child, were killed when run over by a truck in Jajpur Road range on NH 20 near Government Polytechnic College at Ragadi square on early Tuesday morning.

The mother bear’s age was estimated to be at 8 years while the baby bear was just six months.

As per reports, the bear duo belongs to nearby Korabandi Reserve Forest which is facing a scarcity of water. They were crossing the road in search of water when hit by the truck.

Forest officials rushed to the spot and took the bodies of the bears for an autopsy.

The locals have alleged that animal crossing is a frequent sight in the parts and over time accidental deaths of the mute creatures is on the rise. They have demanded the construction of an underpass for safe passage for the animals.
