Odisha: 12-hour Chitrakonda bandh over poor mobile service

Malkangiri:  Normal life was crippled in Chitrakonda block in Odisha’s Malkangiri district on Tuesday as the locals observed a 12-hour bandh over the poor mobile network service in the region.

Vehicular traffic on the roads came to a grinding halt in the block headquarter due to the dawn-to-dusk bandh. Commuters had a narrowing time reaching their destinations as the protestors resorted to picketing and road blockade in different places in the town.

Moreover, government offices, educational institutions and business establishments remained closed today.

Notably, BSNL is the only mobile service provider in the Maoist infested Chitrakonda block.

The protesters alleged that the mobile service does not work most of the times. Sometimes, it goes out of service for 15-16 days. Hence, they face problems in banks services, and other official services like Block office and Tehsil offices.

The protesters said that they would intensify their agitation in the days ahead if the government fails to redress their grievances.
