Odia youth dies in Surat, Family donates his organs to save 5 others

Bhanjanagar: In a sad incident, a youth from Ganjam district of Odisha died in Surat of Gujarat recently where he was working in a Thread Mill. However, his family members decided to donate his organs so that live of 5 other persons can be saved.

The deceased cum organ donor has been identified as Sushil Sahu of Aladi village in Jagannath Prasad block of Ganjam district. He had married three years ago and has been survived by his wife and an infant child. His father is Rama Sahu.

Sushil Sahu, who was working in a thread mill of Surat was died of ailment related to high blood pressure. Following his death, as per advice of the doctor, his family members agreed to donate his heart, liver, kidney and eyes.

Sushil was living along with his wife and one and half year old son along with his brothers in Surat. Their father and mother live in Aladi. He used to send money to his parents back in Odisha.

As per reports, on January 24th while he was working in the thread mill, fell victim of high blood pressure. His brothers and friends rushed him to a private hospital. However, the doctor there declared him brain dead.

After the family members realised that Sushil is not going to survive they decided for the organ donation. Accordingly, his heart, kidney, liver and eyes were extracted and shifted to Chennai and Mumbai as well as Surat through Air Ambulance. The organs were transplanted in the bodies of the patients. The dead body was brought to his native place in Odisha through flight. His last rites were performed in his native place.

Organ donation of Sushil in Surat is the second incident from Odisha. Earlier, Suraj Behera of Lalsingh village in Bhanjanagar area of Ganjam district died on 29 October 2019. Following his death, his family members had donated his organs. Later, Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik had announced Suraj Samman, in memory of him to encourage organ donation.

After death of Sushil Sahu his family has lost the bread earner of the family. The locals have urged for financial help for the family of the deceased cum organ donor.
