Odia migrant labourers rescued from Nagaland

Balasore: Unearthing yet another incident of labour trafficking in the State, Odisha Labour Department officials rescued at least seven Odia migrant labourers from the North-Eastern State Nagaland today.

All the rescued labourers have been identified as residents of Nilgiri area of Balasore district.

As per the report, one labour broker of Kendrapara area namely Ranjan Jena had trafficked at least seven persons from Nilgiri area to Nagaland on the pretext of providing jobs in different plywood companies in Kolkata with handsome salary a few months back.

After reaching Nagaland the labourers were being forced to work 12-15 hours per day by their employers and being beaten up for any type of complaint, informed a labour official.

Nialgiri labour office swung into action after the victims informed their families about the plight and they lodged a case in this connection, a few days back.

The rescued migrant labourers have been kept at Nilgiri labour office for the time being and an investigation is underway.
