Odia labourers stranded in Chennai buy boat to reach Odisha during lockdown

Gajapati: At least 10 Odia labourers who were stranded in Chennai due to nationwide lock down opted for the sea route to reach Odisha. Along with other 17 people of Andhra Pradesh they bought a boat with Rs. 1.7 lakh along with fuel for this sea voyage. However, after reaching Ichhapuram of Srikakulam district in Andhra Pradesh alert Police detained them and put in quarantine.

As per reports Srikakulam Police had  prior information about the said trip through water route. Hence, on their arrival at Ichhapuram coast Police took action immediately.

This incident comes at a time when normally Odisha labourers stranded in other states are trying to come down to their home state either through hired vehicle on road or by walking.

The 10 Odia labourers are from Sunapur of Odisha’s Ganjam district.

It is needless to mention that many labourers from Odisha work in the industries of Chennai. The lock down imposition in the country has shut down industries in Chennai causing massive inconvenience in the income of labourers working there. This has forced many Odia labourers to return back home, without paying any heed to lock down norms.
