Odia IPS Suspended By Tamil Nadu Govt Over Alleged Sexual Assault Charges

Bhubaneswar: Odia IPS Rajesh Das has been suspended from the post of Tamil Nadu Special DGP. Sexual harassment allegations have been leveled against the IPS officer.

The Tamil Nadu government on Wednesday removed him from office. Rajesh Das has been accused of sexually assaulting a female IPS officer.

The female IPS officer was in charge of Chief Minister Palaniswami’s program. Special DGP Rajesh Das was in charge of the security of the event. Rajesh Das took the female SP in his car and tried to assault her.

The woman lodged a written complaint against Rajesh on February 22. The complaint was then sent to the Tamil Nadu Home Secretary. On the February 24, the Home Secretary formed a four-member inquiry committee to investigate.

Loretta Jhona of the International Justice Mission was a part of the committee along with four other senior officials. The team was headed by Additional Chief Secretary Jayashree Raghunandan.

Opposition parties have raised this issue in the by-elections. The Tamil Nadu IPS Association said it was with the female officer. Rajesh Das is a 1989 batch IPS officer of the Tamil Nadu cadre.
