Odia IPS officer Jalad Kumar Tripathy appointed Tamil Nadu DGP

Bhubaneswar: Odisha-born IPS officer Jalad Kumar Tripathy has been appointed as the Director General of Police (DGP) and Head of Police Force of Tamil Nadu with effect from July 1, 2019.

Tripathy, a 1985-batch Punjab cadre IPS officer was serving as the DGP of Uniformed Services Recruitment Board IN Tamil Nadu prior to his empanelment by UPSC which included six officers for the post post a meeting at New Delhi on June 20.

After, examining the recommendations of the UPSC which was sent to the Tamil Nadu Government later, Tripathy was considered for the post as he happens to be the senior most in the panel and has about one year service left.

He would replace the incumbent Tamil Nadu DGP Thiru TK Rajendran who would complete his tenure on June 30.

However, after being appointed as the Head of Police Force, Tripathy would hold office of DGP for a period of two years going by the Supreme Court guidelines in the Prakash Singh case.

Tamil Nadu Government had on Thursday recommended the names of K Shanmugam and JK Tripathy to the Governor for the next Chief Secretary and Director General of Police (law and order) and head of the police force, respectively.
