Bhubaneswar: Odia IAS officer Smrutiranjan Mohanty was allegedly tortured by a police official in Birbhum district of West Bengal on Thursday.
Mohanty, who has been posted as Sub-Divisional Magistrate in West Bengal, alleged that he was misbehaved with and harassed by the sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) of Rampurhat police station in the neighbouring state.
The IAS officer, meanwhile, has drawn the attention of West Bengal Chief Secretary and Home department secretary towards the incident through a letter in which he has urged them to take appropriate action against the accused cop.
In the letter, Mohanty said he was inspecting the police station when Rampurhat SDPO allegedly harassed him. The SDPO allegedly locked him up and detained him for many hours.
Later, Mohanty called up the sub-collector and his associate who reached the police station soon after. Following their intervention, Smrutiranjan was released.
