Odia girl Lipika Seth scales Russia’s highest peak Mount Elbrus

Bhubaneswar: Bringing more laurels to the State, Odisha-born woman mountaineer Lipika Seth has successfully scaled the highest peak of Russia, Mount Elbrus.

Lipika who set out on the expedition of Mount Elbrus on September 28 along with a group of mountaineers of countries across the world succeeded in unfurling the tricolour at the top of the peak which has an elevation of 5,642 m (18,510 ft) on October 5. She also sang the national anthem after achieving the target.

It is learnt that the Mount Elbrus expedition has concluded on October 8 following which Lipika is returned to Odisha today.

Lipika who took up the expedition under the guidance and supervision of mountaineer Nrusingha Sahu has given all credits of her success to her uncle Dibakar Majhi and aunt Damayanti Bag.

Lipika, a resident of Dalab village of Bargarh district had climbed Africa’s highest peak Mt Kilimanjaro (5,895 m) in 2018. She has planned to climb South America’s top peak Mt Aconcagua (6,962 m) in December this year.
